| Entry | Quiet day. Two demonstrations by the French with heavy gun and rifle fire on our right. A careful reconnaissance of the ORCHARD was made: It was found that the enemy's advanced trench comes right up to the N edge of the ORCHARD, and they have a post actually in the ORCHARD. There is a maize [sic] of communications trenches here, and many dead both English and Germans. Our posts in this ORCHARD add greatly to the safety of the position. 2/Lt EL Gerwood joined. |
