Entry The Battn relieved the 1st Btn Kings (Liverpl) Regt in the trenches, leaving LE PREOL at 1pm. The enemy burst two high explosive shrapnel shells over that portion of the line known as the KEEP. At that time several officers were engaged in conversation in the courtyard of the KEEP and the casualties as in margin occurred:- That portion of the line known as the ORCHARD was held by three posts. (1) WHITE HOUSE POST. (2) RED HOUSE POST. (3) SHRINE POST. The SHRINE POST is approached by a very bad and muddy communication trench with many of the enemy's dead still lying in it. 2/Lieut GH Stokes R West Kent Regt attached 1st R Berks Regt. (Right leg broken, three fingers of right hand blown off) Lieut QM FS Boshell (flesh wound in arm) Lieut Caldwell RFA. (flesh wound in shoulder) Five men also badly wounded.
