Entry At 11.30 AM orders were received to be prepared to move at 1.0 PM: shortly afterwards the orders were confirmed and the Battn moved off by Platoons at 100 yards interval to the area immediately E of ST PYTHON. Cookers and Lewis Gun Limbers came with the Battalion. Reference map 51A 1/40,000 and 51A SE 1/20,000 The Battn arrived at Cross Roads V30d6.8. where it halted for 20 minutes. Verbal orders were here issued by B.G.C for the Battn to move at once W of VERTAIN. Whilst on the move orders were received for the Battn to halt near the road in W20b. The C.O. then proceeded to Bde H.Q. in VERTAIN where orders (attached marked 'G') were issued for the Battn to move forward and relieve 2/HLI at once and to attack early the next morning. Rations for the next day were issued to the men and a hot meal served. At 8.15 pm the Battn moved off by Platoons and met guides at the Cross Roads W3B6.4. The Battn was to attack at 4 AM with 23/R Fus on Right and 9th Northumberland on Left and capture the line of the road R7d.5.1. - R7a.5.2. Companies formed up in their assembly positions by 11.45 PM as follows:- A Coy Right front Q29d2.0 to Q28a7.1 C Coy Left front Q28 d 5.6 to Q28 a 7.1 B Coy Support in Q34a D Coy Reserve Q34x Battn HQ in Sunken Road at W3b 6.0
