Entry | At 5.15 AM the Battalion moved by platoons, arriving in J14B and D by 6.45 AM Battalion HQ J8 c23 A B and C Companies in trench J15 c03 to J8 c80 D Company in sunken road J14 A25 to J14 A29. Echelon B moved forward to C28D during the morning. At 10.15 AM verbal instructions were received that 99th Inf Bde would relieve 6th Inf Bde during the night, the Battalion to move forward to E of DOIGNES in the afternoon. At 12.15 PM a conference was held at Battalion HQ and at 2PM the Commanding Officer, Adjutant and the four Company Commanders rode up to reconnoitre the line to be taken over. At 8.45 PM the Battalion moved forward to J17 c where it remained whilst 1st Kings Regt carried out a local attack to reach the Canal in K20 and K26. Then D Company relieved a company of 2/S Staffs holding main line of resistance on the high ground between HERMIES and DEMICOURT relief complete 11.25 PM. A Company relieved a company of 2/S Staffs with one platoon in K25 A and one platoon and Coy HQ immediately W of HERMIES. relief complete 6.10 AM C Company relieved a company of 1/Kings holding trench K20 c10 to K14 c27. relief complete 6.50 AM. B Company relieved a company of 1/Kings holding the high ground in K26n up to the Canal relief complete 11 AM. Battalion HQ J18 D48. The Battalion was in touch with 37th Division on the right at SQUARE COPSE and 1/KRRC on the left. |
