Entry 1.30 am. Enemy commenced shelling Right battalion HQ at JEWEL valley with H.E. and gas shells. Gas blew down valley - weak concentration near support HQ. All clear as far as battalion was concerned 2.15 am. Dull day. Boche aeroplane low over our lines from 9.30 to 10 am MG Lewis Guns opened fire also a battery of 18 pdrs - 2/Lieuts Featherstone Ayers left line in the evening for course of instruction. 2/L Odell [?] to transport prior to proceeding to Signalling Course at DUNSTABLE. Casualties NIL.
