War Diary

1918-03-10
Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, Front line LA VACQUERIE RIGHT
Entry At 3 am troops of the VII corps on our right carried out a raid towards GONNELIEU under cover of an artillery barrage. A patrol of ours under 2/Lieut A J HARRIS went out and cut gaps in the enemy wire in preparation for a raid by 23/RF. Listening patrols were also out until dawn but no identification was obtained. The day was fine and uneventful. At night the holding of the line was re adjusted. A and C Coys taking over the whole line, in posts, with B and D Coys in reserve. At this time the policy of defence appeared to be that in event of attack our main line of resistance would be the HIGHLAND RIDGE and BILHEM SWITCH system and that the advanced line or posts were to be abandoned. For this reason the line was lightly held.
