Home of the Infantry Regiments of Berkshire and Wiltshire

War Diary

1918-02-02
Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, Front Line LA VACQUERIE
Entry A Bright day - movement impossible. Artillery & aerial activity very pronounced. Night quiet. Patrols reconnoitred the enemy sap running E and W opposite No 29 post but found no signs of the enemy. The line was reconnoitred by and advance party of 2/H.L I. Reorganisation of Brigades into 3 Battn formations took place about this date. the 22nd R.F being disbanded and disappearing from the 99th Infantry Brigade. This incident evoked the real sympathy of all ranks in the Battn - the two units having lived and fought side by side in complete harmony for well over 2 years. An appreciation by the Brigadier General, formerly in command of 22/R.F. is attached.
