War Diary

1917-12-01
Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, FRONT LINE NEAR BOURLON
Entry The shelling of our sector and the SUGAR FACTORY was less intense and we had long periods of comparative peace. Between 8 and 9pm our positions in the line were readjusted, as the Battn was mixed up with 23/RF by reason of the several reinforcements that had taken place, and our B Company, having taken the weight of the attack on the previous day was in need of a rest. As a result of the move our C and A Companies remained on L and Centre of the line with D and B Companies in support at the gunpits and the quarry respectively. B Coy 23/RF reinforced by 2 Companies [sic] of D Coy 23/RF held the line between our A Company and the Sunken Road, and C Coy 23/RF took over the posts and the 2 strong points NE of Sunken Road. This inter Battn relief passed off quietly - casualties nil. A quiet night. Good progress was made with wiring, consolidating the front line with the help of 1 Company 10/DCLI and 1 section 483 Field Co RE.
