Entry Shortly after 12 MN the enemy opened a bombardment with guns of all calibres on our Reserve and Support lines and battery positions at ANNEQUIN and VERMELLES and under cover of this fired a large number of gas shells chiefly lachrymatory. Box respirators were adjusted and all ranks stood to. The shelling gradually lessened and ceased about 1 am. The gas reached our rear HQ at BEUVRY much sneezing was caused and the use of a new gas "diphemyl chlorassure" was suspected. At 4 pm the Battn relieved 1/KRRC in front line taking up same positions as on former occasions. Relief complete 5.40pm. Casualties nil.
