Entry Weather fine and warm but misty and cooler at night. Between 10 and 11 am SCOTTISH TRENCH was heavily shelled with 5.9" and practically obliterated for 30 yards but we suffered no casualties. At 12.30pm the enemy lines immediately S of our position were bombarded by medium and heavy trench mortars covered by 18 pounder and 4.5" How fire and by fire of 6th MG Coy. About 11 pm 41st Bde RFA fired on the same targets. At 8pm No 3 Coy 13th Btn Portuguese Infantry were guided out of the trenches without mishap. At 10pm Nos 1 & 2 Companies of 2nd Btn Portuguese Infantry (14 O & about 300 OR) came into the line and were attached for instruction as follows: B Co 3 O and 97 OR. C Coy 2 O & 87 OR, D Coy 3 O & 99 OR. Battn HQ 6 O & 9 OR.
