Regiment 1st Royal Berkshire
Location France, Front Line GIVENCHY RIGHT
Entry A fine day. Both GOC 2nd Div and GOC 99th Bde visited the Btn in the line during the morning. At 8pm No 1 Coy 13th Btn Portuguese Infantry went out and at about 10.30pm No 3 Coy (6 O & 186 OR) of same Battn came in and took their place. The relief or change was complicated by the language difficulty and there was considerable confusion in the matter of rations. No casualties however occurred. During the day "BABY" (a heavy TM) was buried by a 5.9" fired from a northerly direction and went out of action - somewhat to the relief of the Battn as these heavy TM's always rouse the enemy to retaliation - the infantry suffering!
