Regiment | 1st Royal Berkshire |
---|---|
Location | France, Front Line CAMBRIN RIGHT |
Entry | Rain during the whole morning and at intervals during the afternoon. Day very quiet. Casualties NIL. During the whole month the Battalion was organized as two Companies of 4 platoons each. Battalion Headquarters was kept as low as possible. It is not found possible to reduce Battalion Headquarters to any extent. Double Companies (I.e. A&B and C&D) varied between 110 and 140 each, and were, therefore, at the minimum strength as laid down under GHQ letter OB1919 of February last. The Administrative Headquarters included about 20 of the Drums amounted to about 101 which was found to be irreducible. The Drums were used and were fully employed as carrying parties. The Battalion did much work whilst out of the trenches in XIIIth Corps and seldom had any opportunity to train. The Brigadier General Commanding and other Officers expressed their appreciation of the work done which generally consisted of digging under intermittent shell fire. [signed] G. P. HUNT. Lt Col Cmdg 1st Royal Berkshire Regiment. |
