The Western Front Association (WFA) is an organisation formed with the aim of furthering interest in The Great War of 1914-1918. Established in 1980 by noted military historian John Giles, the WFA has grown over the years to some 6,000 members worldwide.
The Wessex Branch is one of 48 affiliated regional branches of the WFA in the UK and through this website we aim to keep you informed of our various branch activities.
At our monthly branch meetings we offer a programme of quality speakers to cater for a wide range of interest in The Great War - from the battlefields to the home front, from the conduct of armies to the personal experience of individuals. Our focus is not limited to a specific branch of the armed forces, to a specific theatre of war or simply to the British and Empire involvement.
Additional events, such as a battlefield tour, local day visits and attendance at regional events and seminars provide more opportunities to further knowledge and generate interest. The branch also operates a School Prize Award Scheme and has an interest in various War Memorial projects. We also aim to provide a source of local information on the Great War including the part played by local men and women.
We welcome anyone with an interest in the Great War, whether you are a WFA member or not. You are guaranteed a warm, friendly reception and a lively atmosphere where people with common interests in The Great War can share experience and information, as well as benefiting from high quality speakers.
So, if you are in the Dorset, Wiltshire or West Hampshire area or even further afield why not come along and visit us. Please check out the 2015 Events page for more information on the speakers programme.
