On 14 July 1914, England, Tidworth. Battalion marched to Grovely Wood and bivouaced at 4.30p.m. The next day it exercised in wood fighting with 2nd Royal Irish Rifles at Grovely Wood
On 29 July 1914, Gibraltar. Fortress alarm sounded at 2230 hours. Precautionary state of mobilization in force. Battalion deployed to pre-arranged positions ie. North Mole - one Platoon: north Front and Admiralty Wireless Station - two Platoons: Kings' Queens' and Princess' Lines - three Platoons: Coverport Battery to West-Place-of-Arms - three Platoons. Remaining seven Platoons formed part of Fortress Reserve.
