During June 1841, India, Hazareebaugh. The rains set in around the middle of June. Sickness, which had been increasing in the Regiment since the commencement of the hot season, got to such an extent that there were 150 men in hospital, of whom, in the three months during which the rains continued, 38 died (14 from Cholera) and one officer from fever
During July 1841, England, Portsmouth. Regiment came to Portsmouth from Gosport. On 22 September it marched to Winchester and on 15 November began to march to Manchester.
On 20 Aug 1841, Hong Kong. After returning, a wing of the 49th left here. The same day, wings of the 49th arrived at Amoy and Chausan and joined the land forces in a new expedition
On 4 Sept 1841, Ireland, Kilkenny. Regiment marched for Dublin, embarked at Northwall on steamer 'Ballinasloe' for Liverpool on 13 September, arrived there on 14 September, entrained and by rail to Birmingham. By rail to London on 15 September and marched via West End, Greenwich and Deptford for Chatham, arriving there on 17 September
On 1 Oct 1841, China, Tinghai Chusan. The attack to recapture these was successful.
On 7 October the 49th re-embarked leaving behind a detachment of approximately 150 men
On 9 Oct 1841, China, Chinhai. Ships carrying the 49th arrived here and they were part of a successful attack on the Town, which was taken possession of, with its large military stores
On 12 Oct 1841, England, Chatham. First draft of Regiment marched to Deptford (One Officer, one Sergeant, 29 Rank and File, four women and four children) and embarked as guards on convict transport 'Richard Webb ' for Van Diemens Land
On 1 Nov 1841, India, Hazareebaugh. The Regiment marched in two divisions to Fort William, one leaving on 1 November and the remainder marching off on 8 November
On 9 Dec 1841, India, Calcutta, Fort William. 2nd Division arrived. Deaths during the march of both Divisions amounted to two, with 94 in hospital with 2nd Division at start, but reduced to 36 on arrival
On 27 Dec 1841, China, U.Yon. Two flank companies of the 49th went with Gough up a branch of the Takea River, where they helped disperse a small hostile force.
The companies returned to Fong Wah on 31 December
During Jan 1842, China, Ningpo. Headquarters of the 49th was deployed here, with companies deployed to Chusan, Hong Kong, with a few of the Regiment remaining in India
