On 2 Feb 1840, India, Dinapore. Regiment embarked on the Ganges in boats, landed at Berhapur on 13 February, re-embarked on 16 March and landed at Calcutta on 26 March
On 6 Apr 1840, India, Calcutta. Regiment embarked on the 'Mahomed Shah', 'Suliman', 'Blundell', 'Mermaid' and 'Isabella Robertson'. The last two collided with each other and had to put back.
'Mermaid' sailed with Battalion Headquarters on 17 April.
The 'Isabella Robertson' sailed on 23 April.
On 16 May 1840, Singapore. During the next two days the transports reached Singapore safely and disembarked.
Regiment under the command of Brigadier-General Burrell finally set sail on 30 May.
The ships arrived at Macao on 21 June and remained a few days
On 24 Sept 1840, India, Moulmein. Regiment relieved by Native Battalion (33rd Native Infantry)
Headquarters of Regiment, Band and Staff Companies embarked on 'Samarang' for Calcutta.
On 5 Nov 1840, India, Calcutta, Fort William. Regiment marched for Ghazepore and subsequently to Hazareebaugh, where it arrived on 7 December having lost 22 through Cholera etc.
During Jan 1841, India, Hazareebaugh. The sick, women and children and heavy baggage arrived some six weeks after the Regiment, having started by water via a roundabout route taking 13 days
On 7 Jan 1841, China, Tinghai. Convalescents from 49th with other troops embarked from mouth of Canton River to take Forts at Chuen Pi and Tai-Kok-tan, which were captured and dismantled on 7 January.
Troops re-embarked on 8 January and all 49th moved to the mouth of the river
On 23 Feb 1841, China, Canton River. A depleted Regiment embarked for Hong Kong, arriving there on 5 March.
On 6 March the Regiment went up river on the 'Suliman' and the 'Stalkirk' and on 9 March the two transports anchored at North Wantung
