On 24 Apr 1885, Sudan, Otao. Battalion marched to a Zariba near Otao and encamped. On 1 May it marched to Handouh and encamped. On 25 May the Battalion entrained for Suakin. Before departure, enemy advanced to withing 1000 yards. Dispersed by fire from 'H' Company. Enemy reappeared and fired, without effect, as train departed. The Battalion arrived at Suakin on 23 May. Headquarters, 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D' and 'E', Companies embarked in 'Loch-Ard'. 'F', 'G', and 'H' Companies embarked in 'Conway Castle'.
