On 22 Mar 1885, Sudan, Suakin. Battalion with Royal Marines and Indian Contingent, marched eight miles towards Tamai (?) to build three Zaribas. While still unfinished, were heavily attacked by Arabs of the Hadindowa tribe. After severe fighting enemy were driven off, losing 3000 killed and died of wounds. Battalion lost 21 killed, 33 wounded.
