During Apr 1854, England. The establishment of 49th raised to sixteen companies, comprising eight service companies and the other eight, smaller companies, formed the Depot. On 7 April the two Depot Companies joined the service companies at Malta. During the month the 49th embarked in detachments for Crimea - Scutari.
