Mjaor Ernest Montagu Davenport was born in 1817 and commissioned into the 66th (Berkshire) Regiment in 1835. His service was both in the Regiment at home and abroad and in its Depot. He remained with the 66th Regiment until 1858. The places where he served included Ireland, England, Scotland, The West Indies, America and Canada, where the 66th took part in the Canadian Rebellions, including a number of actions in arduous and atrocious condtions.
